This morning I had plans and I was on track. Then it started to get light outside and I could see the flooding. I live on a mountain and have culverts to funnel the water away from the house. When the culverts are blocked, all of that water aims itself right at my house. That's what it's doing today. So we dig. Fun.
So, what about my lifestyle changes? Do I toss them out the window? Or do I do the best I can under less than ideal circumstances?
What do you do when life throws you a curveball?
I had a "curveball" thrown my way on my Day 4 too, but of a different sort. I had to sacrifice my nightly, self-focused betterment routine and volunteer my expertise as the in-home geek squad, performing major surgery & a brain transplant to a virus-infected computer for a small, home-based business that is run by a very beautiful and talented woman, my wife! Knowing that any extended down-time for her business means potential revenue loss, angst and worry, I realized that my night's plans needed adjustment. Afterward, I was thinking to myself, that sometimes giving (in this case, expertise & support) was very satisfying & I feel blessed that I was able to a) assist & b) actually fix it! So moral of the story, volunteerism & sacrificing was not a bad use of my Day 4 evening (even if I'll never get those 8 hours of my life back & I only got 3 hours sleep). A little sidetrack is inevitable, as long as the end result is still in mind & you can get back on course.
ReplyDeleteIn hindsight, I probably could have done my workout routine in between long stretches of downtime while waiting for hard-drives to format and programs to install - oh well, hope to get back into the swing again tonight!
I'm sure your wife appreciated your support!
